Road surface danger to cyclist and motorcyclists

Sent to Cheshire County Council 2 minutes later

I have noticed for sometime now that the surface around the roundabout on the A534 is particularly worn and uneven, when a motorcyclist goes around the roundabout they naturally will lean into the turn hence less tyre surface area with the road. This roundabouts surface is so uneven that I have to take great care to get around it in a car and I often wonder just how many cyclist and motorcyclists have been thrown off their bikes on this surface. I believe it to be a hazard. Perhaps as Homebase have just built not far from this roundabout they could help with the expense and waitrose who have an exit off of the roundabout to their store!

I received a response from the council but it's not too hopeful. Please see below:

Thank you for your enquiry with reference to the above location.

We are aware of the condition of the carriageway, and have recently requested monies for works to be carried out.

I have spoken with my colleague who is dealings with this matter, and he has informed me that there is a possibility of the carriageway being

re-surfaced this financial year, but no firm promises can be made.

I have noted your concerns regarding the situation and these will be taken into account.

Just for general information:

we do have an inspection regime which is designed that all carriageways within the County are inspected on a regular fortnightly, monthly, Half yearly or Yearly basis, dependant on the class of road, this is covered under the Highways Act 1980 Section 58 -- Highway Safety Inspections Code of Practice for Highway Safety Inspections. With these inspections and adhoc information we receive, we do endeavour to keep the carriageways in a safe condition and within the specified tolerances given within the code of practice..

If you wish to discuss this or any other matter please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

John Tickle Highway Superintendent
