Litter

Reported in the Rubbish (refuse and recycling) category by Peter Wallace at 08:16, Mon 8 December 2008

Hi,

The bins here are always full each week and over flowing. The bin men do not take all the rubbish away.

The residents from enbrook valley do not recycle as they do not know they have to. Plus we do not have a collection point. I take my recycle bins to fremantle road and put them on the verge.

The answer to messy, over flowing bins and no one recycling is that you need to inform the residents of enbrook valley that they MUST recycle their glass, paper and plastics. This will empty the bins and clean the environment.

Can you get back to me with an answer please.

Thanks, Peter

The council were very quick to act on making a decision, but I feel it was without proper consultation with the residents. My opinions weren't fully taken into account and the residents were not canvassed for their opinions.

We have been supplied a new bin free of charge, which removes the excess rubbish from the gutter and driveway, but it does not tackle the issue of where the excess rubbish is coming from. Almost 95% of the residents do not recycle their rubbish and consequently the bins are full of glass, plastic and paper, which could be disposed of elsewhere.

This is the REAL problem and the solution lies in asking residents to recycle more.

The extra bin has NOT improved the situation, as the bins are overflowing still. When there were two bins, people overfilled two bins. Now there are three, people have grown used to it and are overfilling three.

We need a proper solution.
