Road needs de-icing
Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 16:08, Sun 7 December 2008
Sent to Harrow Borough Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 36754.
During frosty and icy weather, Silverston Way becomes icy and slippery and to my memory there has been no gritting by the council. Sunlight does not get to some parts of the road and so it often remains icy for long periods.
Can this be addressed, either by gritting or if not practical, providing 3 grit containers, one at each end of the road plus one at the apex of the crescent? Thanks

Hard to tell if the road had been de-iced/gritted because of variable weather. However, tonight we had our first snowfall of the year and if the snow/slush freezes, the road will be like a skating rink as always. Had we been supplied with large tubs of grit as requested, we could have handled the problem among ourselves. As it is, we will have to hope a gritting lorry will, for the 1st time, visit the road and do the necessary. I won't hold my breath.

I was written to by the council to say that our road was not a priority and they didn't have the resources to provide de-icing/gritting for our road.
They would not direct a gritting machine to our road, nor would they supply grit containers we could use ourselves.
It was a disappointing response and frankly I don't know if there is any point in taking it further, if that is their response.
In the event of a future ice related accident, can we hold the council responsible for not providing the means to make the road safe?
