Whilst walking through the park last week I assisted an elderly lady who had tripped on the uneven pathways. Whilst she was only shaken I helped her home and promised I would contact the Council about the poor state of the park I am aware of the Memorial park regeneration plans for the long term but I would advise there appear to be urgent repairs needed to provide the park as as safe and secure environment. The pathways are dangerous, at least two street lights were not working, kids were gathered on bikes not menancing but causing one to be quite guarded. The outbuildings are derelict and unused am another walker advised that the security cameras are not in action. Could you please inform me of the state of the park, what repairs are in process to ensure the safety for all to enjoy. Many thanks Kim Hennelly

The lights are maintained by KCC and the information has been passedacross to them by CCC to attend to ASAP. Kind Regards Aaron
Reminder to Canterbury City Council
Could you please advise when further repairs to the pathways are to be completed to make them safe for the pedestrian.
Regards
Kim Hennelly
No response to email of 1/12/08 to Canterbury City Council. Written to Councillors Jean Law and David Hirst of KCC and Cllrs Matthews and Flaherty of CCC as there seems to be confusion as to whether KCC or CCC are responsible. Hopefully will be able to get these footpaths repaired urgently, particularly as winter is setting in and with icy conditions the Footpaths are even more dangerous as they are so uneven and icy conditions will make the footpaths very slippery

Herne Bay Fix our Town Campaign
Dear Kent County Councillors Jean Law and David Hirst and Canterbury City Councillors Roger Matthews and Margaret Flaherty
The problem of uneven, decayed footpaths to the Memoria Park were reported to Canterbury Ciy Councilon 3rd Novembe 2008. Unfortunately no action has been taken to repair these footpaths to make them safe for the pedestrian despite numerous emails. We would be most grateful if you would support resident of Herne Bay in ensuring problem action as our Councillos for Herne Bay. I Have copied below the original report under "fix my Street" together with a direct link to their web page. Thank you K Hennelly Henre Bay Fix our Town Campaign
The Council obviously have no intention of maintaining our Park. The meeting to discuss the regeneration park with the breadcrumbs throuwn from the City of £500,000 was farcicle. Sure we were asked what we wanted but the Council still to have the final say and will as usual, do what they want and the least they can.
The obvious answer is to increase the amount of funds available. Please dont say there is no monety. The Council, (we actually) have just had a VAT windfall of £2.9 million. Are the Council spending wisely no, they have decided to save it for a rainy day - not in Iceland we hope. Sorry I thought it was our money dont we have a say in what to do with it.
Do the decent thing Canterbury Council. Bring the park up to the standard it should have been kept. Repair the Footpaths, clean the Pond out etc from the annual budget. Install CCTV from the Government funds of £900,000 awarded to Canterbury for innovative CCTV facilities for the DISTRICT including Herne Bay. If the Council can do all this and increase the capital funds to £1. million we will be able to have a regenerated park, an outstanding one - one fitting for a mention in the Herne Bay Culture Trail. The grand opening of the Culture Trail is 16th May and guess what the Council list the Visitor Information Centre at the Banstand (6) -now clsed and the Memorial Park (10) as special places to visit. So please do put your hands into our purse and get our Town sorted so we can give Tourists and Resdients alike a Cuture Trail to remember.
After doing some further research into S 106 monies it has become very clear that many Council's have and continue to exploit these funds for Town Enhancement,Parks, flower beds and regenration zones which Herne Bay is. Parks are classed Has Public Green Open Space one of the top s106 Priorities. Unfortunity our Canterbury City Council do not seem to want to use these funds for what ever reason they have with Herne Bay. If you look at the Councils such as South hams Devon,Ealing Borough Council,Guilford Council, Tetford Council, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and many more besides they have all used and exploit S 106 monies even to the extent of Match Funding with or without Single Regenration Budget Funding, European Funding. So Again I ask this Council why are you not doing the same. There are many Questions to answer, the Park could and should have been started by now and there is no excuses what so ever. A list of what S 106 funds can be used for are Parks, Town Centre improvements Through TCM, Better or New Sports Facilities, Tourism/Visitor Facilities VIC Centres,Flower Beds like the ones grassed over on the seafront,Street furniture, CCTV including Park,Lighting including Park and including Festive Lighting,Litter Bins,TC 12- TC 15 Regeneration zones Enhancement in Canterbury City Council local planning contributions Documents. Match Funding with or without other funding streams and much more besides. I trust the Council will start to use these funds. But I am told by Councillors they will not, so maybe a public meeting will be called for all Councillors, Officers and MP Roger Gale to attend so we can as a community get to the bottom of their short comings and failures.THE TIME HAS COME FOR THIS TO HAPPEN!!!!!! Thank You Andy Newell
