Poor State of Kiln Street

Reported in the Potholes category by Richard W Hall at 14:35, Sun 14 September 2008
Sent to Bury Borough Council 6 minutes later

Kiln Street - As far as I am aware begins at Dundee Lane crosses Garnett Street and ends at Buchanan Street. It is used by types of vehicles e.g.children being taken to St Joseph's School, refuse wagons. The street is in terrible state with large potholes, uneven sections and large puddles. Surely it could be leveled and at least be given a surface of hard core.

The first reply I received advised that the street is not adopted. I reply I have pointed out that in this day of council tax payments - I did not see this as being fair. Been advised it is being looked into - not holding my breath. Suspect won't hear anything else.

Have been contacted by local Councillors who advise that as the street is unadopted - there can do nothing about it. All they could do is possible assist with contacting other residents with a view to there being communal funding to bring the street upto a better standard.

Just because the street is unadopted - presumably the local authority will not do anything. Other than possibly to help co-ordinate immediate residents in organising getting the work done ourselves.

The reason given was that the street in not adopted & therefore local Councillors are unable to help other than possible help with contacting residents ajacent to the street to fund resurfacing. This I feel is a non starter as there are certainly some section/s which is not ajacent to anyone's property. Who would fund this?

This road is used by many members of the public, walking and by vehicles who I am sure do not live in the vacinity for access to the only RC school in the town. It is also has heavy usage for/by e.g. short cuts, to reach residential property, lorries, wagons, refuse collections.

In view of the above i.e. school - I feel it should be considered for maintenance by the local authority. All that is being asked is that the suface is levelled and given a reasonable surface. It does not have to be tarmaced.

Seems unlikely that anything will be done. Having said that a Councillor has made a comment in local paper about the top priority being roads leading to schools. In tend to get in touch with her via the coucils web site.
