In a recent article in the local paper we were told to paint our properties to make rhyl more appealing to visitors. surley rubbish all over the streets is worse than paintwork! there must also be a massive cost to the rate payer for this messed being moved EVERY week. how about wheelie bins for rhyl north where the seagulls and daytrippers are?

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME OUR LOCAL COUNCILLORS ARE,WE HAVE A FANTASTIC BEACH AND A TOWN WITH LOADS OF POTENTIAL, ITS A PITY WE ARE GOING TO HAVE AN ASDA SUPERMARKET IN THE MIDDLE OF PRIME TOURISM AREA....I CANT IMAGINE THIS WILL BRING ANY VISITORS TO THE TOWN. ITS JUST GOING TO BE ANOTHER NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF THE TOWN CENTRE! A THEME PARK UTILISING THIS SITE AND THE MARINE LAKE SITE WITH POSSIBLY THE USE OF THE WASTE GROUND AT THE END OF MARSH ROAD WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER IDEA. AS FOR MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT OF THE RUBBISH,ITS STILL A MESS HERE IN THE WEST END OF RHYL. THE THEME PARK IDEA HAS NO HOPE, YOU CANT EVEN PICK UP A BIT OF LITTER!

Mr Darbey,

Your contact via the above website in July has just been sent to me, I don't know why there has been such a long delay but making contact via the Council's own website/email addresses does seem to be more reliable: <<environmental.services@denbighshire.gov.uk>> or there is a "feedback" button on every page of the Denbighshire website.

As I have read from your later posting, the Council is extending the wheely-bin collection scheme, though for the timebeing the domestic households in Butterton Road have not been included. This is mainly because of the larger proportion of converted flats and households where the storage of bins may be problematic for residents. However, now the switch to wheely-bins is being made, it is in the Council's interests to use them for as many collections as possible and we are already looking at where else they might be used for domestic refuse collection.

Many thanks,

So lets get this right now, these people whom live in Butterton Road in the flats, They have to contain their rubbish inside the flat for a week? But the people whom are fortunate to have a driveway, garden or outside shed get to have the wheelie bin? TOTAL MADNESS! JUST HOW BIG DO YOU THINK THEIR FLATS ARE???

Mr Roberts, Sounds like we should go back to the good old dustbin! They are small enough to go behind all the garden walls at the front of the property, and in the "hmo" properties four to six bins located behind the garden wall would not be out of the question. The only issue being they would need to be emptied more frequently due to their small size (and we both know, thats never going to happen!)

At the end of the day, NOBODY cares about the West End of Rhyl, especially the streets known as "bedsit land" We only have the council to blame for allowing these properties to come about in the first place. I find it hard to believe you are leaving the problem streets, especially the ones that are most prominent in the town to visitors! It is an embarrassment to see Rhyl on the tv, The Secret Millionaire show recently shown Rhyl on tv, The next day I had suppliers on the phone saying what a dump the town looked. YOU are not helping matters!!!

The fact that people store rubbish in their flats for a week demonstrates this, i.e. if a landlord doesn't provide tenants with space for a dustbin outside, where can they put a wheely-bin? Wheely-bins have so far been distributed where residents can have little or no argument about their use - though we still get a small number of objections. The Council wants as many households as possible on wheely-bins but in some areas we will need to do more work such as consulting with residents and landlords about issues like storage before considering switching the service. It is also important to point out that wheely-bins for domestic refuse collections will not resolve all the problems of rubbish in the streets of Rhyl. There is still the discipline of putting things in a container and setting it out on the right day, which is something that a small number of residents make no attempt to do at present. Some residents have even expressed the view to us that wheely-bins in the street will be more offputting to tourists than the litter you mentioned.

I'm only trying to point out that providing wheely-bins in Butterton Road will not be as straightforward as it might seem; I am not saying we will never provide them. In fact, we are constantly looking at ways in which we can extend the coverage of the wheely-bin service but we are now getting down to those streets where there are problems that need to be resolved first.
