Important road markings missing

Reported in the Road traffic signs category anonymously at 08:51, Saturday 25 February 2012
Sent to Southampton City Council 4 minutes later

Because of the way Third Ave runs parallel to a dual carriageway, traffic exiting the new recycling centre and turning left out of Manor House Avenue is often fooled into driving on the wrong side of the road along this section of Third Avenue. Motorists aren't doing it deliberately, its entirely down to poor signage.

The carriageway here needs several white arrows to make the direction of of travel absolutely clear.

A "Two way traffic" sign is also needed at the head of Manor House Avenue.

Problems with direction of traffic flow is not a rare occurrence. I work as a delivery driver and I see the problem happen several times a day, as I'm coming and going.

  • Saw a huge skip lorry driving on the wrong side of the road this morning, having completed its job of changing the bins at the Recycling Centre.

Firstly, I wouldn't want anybody to crash head-on into one of those...!

Secondly, it shows that the road signs are inadequate as even the highly trained professional HGV drivers are being fooled by this road layout and poor signage...
