Lazarou Hairdressers (in the Duke Street Arcade) have put an advert on a bike and chained it to the bike stand.

  • The Council replied saying that unless the bike is causing an obstruction then it's not breaking any laws - apparently you can advertise on a bike and leave it somewhere.

    I've asked one of my Councillors to explore this because it's not right that companies can exploit public space like this.

  • The bikes are still there but I have had a couple of emails from a local Councillor. Apparently there's nothing stopping people / businesses from using bikes at bike stands as advertising, as long as it's not causing an obstruction. Obviously, this is bonkers - this is public space - and the Councillor is looking into how we can make it illegal.
