Lighting in the alleyway along College Drive

Reported in the Street lighting category anonymously at 21:33, Thu 17 November 2011
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council 1 minute later

The footpath / alleyway the runs along the side of college drive and The Mall. I have sent an email to the council about this before but nothing has been done, the alleyway is still pitch black and the street lamps are never on. I regularly have to walk along the alleyway in the dark to get home. Since it was blocked off in the summer, you can no longer cut straight through to the flats without walking along in the dark behind the trees and bushes. The path has been relayed at each end so why hasn't the lighting been fixed ?

  • There is now broken glass along the alleyway. I informed the council about the lighting at the begining of october and again in november via this site and still nothing has been done. Why do we have to walk in the pitch black through rubbish and broken glass ? When will this be fix ?

  • No It's still not been fixed, public safety clearly isn't an issue and still no response from the council after 3 months

  • I do think public safety is a issue With Central Bedfordshire But for some reason they didn't email you about when they will fix the street lights. Your best bet is to just call or email them in asking for the street lights to be fixed. I think it takes 10 days to get them repaired.

  • I reported this problem via fix my street on 17th november and also reported it to the council at the begining of october and all I've got in return is conformation that they got the email. This is a busy footpath used by many people to get to woodside and white lion but nothing has been done to fix it.

Are you sure you don't mean 100 days James ? I've spent the last 3 months walking in the pitch black, how is that concern for public safety ?

  • Maybe the Problem is who owns it, as i've reported two columns in Central Bedfordshire which could be highway agency's columns the columns just say 1 on it them doesn't say Central Bedfordshire council or highway agency on them there off the A5 on Brewers hill road.

Well it is odd maybe they aren't that concern for public safety, the lights have been out for so long must be a reason for this?

  • You may have a point there James, I know there was an issue with who own's College Drive or The bus lane as it was know until recently. I'm just sick of walking home in the dark wondering when someone is going to jump out of the bushes. Several of my neighbours also carry a torch with them when going along there.

Posted anonymously at 18:13, Monday 16 January 2012

  • Do the columns say anything on them? if not then it could be someone else who owns it. another street light on North Station Way, i reported it my email but they said it isn't there column could be the fire department or still under the developers of the site so it may will be that reason. i think its a underground Cable which is why they are not working, i know they are replacing there lanterns with new white lamps so it is odd why this hasn't been fixed as yet.

Posted by James B at 19:25, Monday 16 January 2012

  • As these have been out for a few months I'll report these Streetlights as in a few days, as i'll be emailing them asking about some street lights which i've reported so i'll add these and then they should get them fixed. i'll also add that people who live in the aren carry a torch to see where there going in the dark that should get the job done.

  • Thanks James, that would be great as nothing I do or say seems to make any difference.

  • I'll let you know when they've Got back to me about the lighting in the alleyway and see if there's a some kind of who owns it.

  • Got my email from the council they couldn't find it they seem to know the aren just not the alleyway however I've given them some more info on the aren and showed them a link from google street view of the alleyway and one of the streetlights so waiting for them to email back so hope to get some info on them.

  • Thanks, thats good news. I bumped into a couple of armed robbers along there this week so not happy at all about the state of the area. You never know who you will pass in the street, let alone a dark alleyway

  • What happend when you bumped into the armed robbers Did you do some kung fu? your right never know who around the next corner! i've reported some lights before that were all out anlong a footpath in MK they fixed them in about a week so this alleyway should get fixed in the same time (lets hope so) the other interesting thing is how come no one else has reported them maybe they've givin up as well.

  • Ha ha, afraid I left them to it, I wouldn't have won that fight an I have no intention of leaving my baby an orphan, just called the police after. Maybe other people don't know where or who to report it to. I only came across this site by accident and that was a month after getting no response going direct to the council.

Posted anonymously at 07:54, Sunday 12 February 2012

  • Yeah it would be best to leave I guess especially as you have a baby! Let the the bules in twos take care of it. Yeah that could be why no one as reported these as yet. I use this site to report potholes about MK as it gives them a map of where they are.

Posted by James B at 11:32, Sunday 12 February 2012

  • Got a update they say they have checked the area on the attached to there mapping system and it does not appear that the lighting columns are theres as they are not showing up. They maintain the road definitely but they have no columns listed. they have sent this info to the street lighting team to see if they are aware if these are there's or not. If not hopefully they will be aware of who does. at least we're geting some where with this problem, now its just walting to see who owns it.

Posted by James B at 15:09, Monday 13 February 2012

  • How odd, there is some lighting on the other side of the road and most of these are working but the problem is in the alleyway set back from the road. I did have a look for some numbers on the columns but couldn't see any

Posted anonymously at 17:56, Monday 13 February 2012

  • That's odd that the columns don't have any numebrs on them, from looking on street view the column i can see in the alleyway looks like one of there's so don't know why they won't repair them, there's 14 streetlights at The roundabout where Tring road / Icknield Way (B489) and Dagnal Road/ Harling Road meet together and only two of those are working, i saw them myself not working 4 months ago but thought some one would report them and they did just yesterday! so they've be out for at least 4 months or longer the thing is why they've been out for so long the one who reported them is asking for them to be replaced as they wan't brighter lights installed as they those orange neon lights a other thing i bet to do with who owns it but there was a column that was crashed into on that roundabout and it was like that for 3 months so i asked for them to replace it they did they also said who owns it but i've forgotten onw installeds them someone else wires it up don't know why they have all these people they should just have one who does it all.

  • Thanks James, I spoke to someone from the council last week and he said they may look into it as they are redesigning the other end of the street so hopefully one day it will be fixed. Just have to keep on at them until something is done

Posted anonymously at 18:24, Friday 6 April 2012

  • Yeah, that does sound like if there redesigning the other end of the street the street lights should also have something done to them,

They'll probable say the same when i email them maybe that will egg them on a bit so to speak.

  • They did email back, they didn't seem to have any info on the lighting. Did that ither chap look into the lighting to see if they own the lighting on the alleyway?

Posted by James B at 18:46, Thursday 17 May 2012

  • Never heard anything from him, they don't seem to be interested. We will end up with a new bus link at one end of the street and a new 'street scape' at the other and a dirty, dark dangerous alleyway in the middle.

Posted anonymously at 07:48, Saturday 19 May 2012

  • Seems odd, you'd think someone must own them as those must be pretty old street lights, there must be a reason behide them not doing any thing?
