Exits from Asda and Aldi

Reported in the Traffic lights category by A Gemmell at 19:05, Sun 6 April 2008
Sent to Clackmannanshire Council less than a minute later

1 - now that Aldi is open there is no right of way for traffic coming from either shop, lights turn green for both exits at the same time and it is a free for all and only a matter of time before someone is hurt. 2 - Surely a modern intelligent set of traffic signals can react to traffic flow quicker than these ones?

I received this answer - Outwith peak times, the signals were set up to allow the Asda/Aldi phase to be called more frequently (as traffic flows on A908 dictate). However this has not been working as effectively as it should. The signals were installed by contractors on behalf of Asda as part of their development, then subsequently added to by Aldi. After various complaints about the operation of the signals, I instructed a detailed examination of the signals and controller. After this inspection, it was discovered that there was a fault with the original installation. I am now arranging to repair this but may have to pursue the original installer to establish liability for the fault. I don't know if the delays are less now but we live in hope.

it's hopeless, i've sat at aldi waiting to turn right, cars turning left from asda zoom straight out, then by the time there is a gap my light has changed back to red. people get paid a fortune for designing road systems that don't work.

A give way system would surely be more effective....The traffic lights meen that traffic gets backed up onto the roundabout at peak times, and the wait to get out of Asda car park, well that makes me shop at Tesco! If the traffic lights were replaced by a 'give way' system, and left turn only from Aldi's then the road would flow much better - think about it!

I'm inclined to agree with Mike, is it all a absolute waste of our money, possibly the cost of a swimming pool?

We still havn't heard any more about the fault they found with the system, has this been repaired, if so I still have to wait a long time coming out of ASDA

Surely a more sensible approach would have been to install a 2 lane roundabout? Fair for everyone.
