Road Ice hazard
Reported by Mike Lish at 17:02, Sun 26 December 2010
Sent to Norfolk County Council and Breckland District Council 2 minutes later
This road junction is often covered with sheet ice stretching down the steep hill along Mackenzie Road, due East towards Redcastle Plantation.
A yellow grit bin should be sited along this section of Mackenzie Road to alleviate skid hazards. My garden wall boarders this junction and has been rebuilt owing to a car skidding out of control on sheet ice at this junction in collision with it.

I confirm the above problem and would like to add that we agree and would like a yellow grit bin that the residents of Mackenzie Road could use to help avoid accidents in these areas

I have e-mailed Highways who agree to fill any grit bin however it is Thetford Councils responsibility to put them in. Have also e-mailed the town clerk and await a response. I also suggested gritting as school buses use this route and they managed to grit last year after police attended on 24/12/09.

I received a quick response from my MP to my concerns. My MP in-turn forwarded my concerns to the appropriate individuals serving their respective authorities. I have not heard or seen any evidence of further action being taken.

I received a lengthy explanation, dated 21 January, via Ms.E.Truss MP from a Mr. Graham Plant, Cabinet Member for Travel & Transport, his Ref. HW/T39/GP/MJ/KR/PG/SS[249689] explaining his office has written to parish and town councils with an invitation to express their views on highway activities e.g. location of grit bins. No further response received.
