Non-residential Parking and Business Use of Road as a Shortcut

I have lived in Murdock Road for 20 years, parking my vehicle safely outside or near my house, which is close to the junction with Soho Road. We now have two disabled people living at home and need to park very close to our home. However, since January 2010, my car has been damaged twice,in drive-by incidents, the second time causing serious damage and my insurance company scrapped my vehicle, causing me financial hardship in the process. There may well be 3 different threads to this problem: a)My car was damaged by commercial vans, who I suspect are either delivering goods to the area or are using Murdock Road as a shortcut to avoid the heavy traffic on Soho Road. b) During shopping hours, it is almost impossible to park my/any other resident's car, since shoppers/business employees park as near as they can to the Soho Road, leaving Murdock Road with nil available parking for it own residents. c) there is a huge increase in 'through' traffic on this road, despite the council having placed many speed bumps to make this less convenient a shortcut route and of course to increase pedestrian safety. Today, my neighbour's car was also badly damaged in a similar incident and I'm sure that many other residents have also experienced this. We understand that it is illegal to park a vehicle up on the pavement but there is insufficient space to park on our housefronts So we would like to request some action to be taken by the council to investigate this problem and at the very least hopefully restrict the parking to residents only, whilst seriously addressing the issue of providing adequate parking for the many shoppers who visit Soho Road in our area. Thank you for your attention.
