The Meridians

Reported in the Parks/landscapes category anonymously at 09:21, Wed 11 August 2010
Sent to Christchurch Borough Council 4 minutes later

Unkempt grass, overgrown shrubs and litter. The shrubs have not been trimmed in years; they block light from houses and block foothpaths; and the grass has not been cut at all this year.

Wimpey built the development and should maintain the whole area around Stour Road. I was able this summer to contact the relevant manager and have intrusive trees outside our garden cut back. The council is apparently not taking responsibility for monitoring the contract with Wimpey and ensuring the condition of the site is acceptable.

Nothing has changed except that the grass is now longer and greener than in August, the litter is deeper and squelchier and the shrubs are bigger. The Council has apparently not pursued Taylor Wimpey, who have the responsibility for maintaining this area.

Council denies responsibility for ensuring Wimpey carries out its maintenance obligations even though this was the agreement made between the two organisations when the development was built.

Why not just go out with a litter stick and pick it all up yourself or in a group? Some of us have been doing this in the town centre. It's about taking control..

Several reasons why not, including the fact that litter-picking does not resolve shrubs intruding into gardens and across the pavement!

So when will this ongoing problem get sorted out, I refere to the area of green, around the stour road roundabout, we pay our council tax so lets see some action, sooner rather than later.
