Dangerous lane markings

On the exit from the M8 which leads down to Argyle Street, straight down to the Clydeside or right onto the Clydeside expressway there are 3 lanes marked. The lanes on the left is quite narrow, this is the left turn or straight ahead lane, it is OK if someone is going left but the problem occurs if someone wants to drive straight ahead. There is a column for the Kingston bridge right next to this lane, and many people take a wide berth of this column usually panicking and ending up partially in the middle lane. I have never actually really looked at it to see if it is philological and people are just trying to stay away from the intimidating column or if the lane is actually too narrow, I suspect it is as I don’t think I have ever seen a car stay within the marked lines. Because the lines are their people just assume they can fit, and drive into it unawares, often resulting in near misses. The middle lane would be perfect for people wanting to continue straight and I think the left hand lane should be left turn ONLY with the rest of that lane marked with chevrons.
