Shrubs encroaching on pavement

Reported by Android phone in the Pavements/footpaths category by Lee Alley at 16:16, Thu 8 July 2010
Sent to Lambeth Borough Council 3 minutes later

A shrub has been allowed to grow over the pavement right next to a tree planted in the pavement, which together don't allow two people to pass next to each other. The shrub create an eye hazard for someone walking in the dark as well.

1/10/2010: Checked earlier this week - there has been no change other than the plant growth that has further encumbered passage past the chokepoint in the picture.

This has not been fixed as of a week ago. Pathetic really. Remind me why I pay council tax?

This has not been fixed. The gap betweent he shrubs and the tree on the pavement is now smaller as the two have grown in the ensuing time. The house is rented thus the landlord is absent and not seeing to maintenance of his property. The council needs to sort this.

As of this morning (8-2-2011) this problem remains unaddressed. It is still impossible for two people to pass this point at the same time. With a push chair and a small child, one has to be very careful that the hedge doesn't brush one's child's eyes.

Please accept my apology for the lack of progress concerning this issue. I have forwarded it to the streetcare environmental officer with all the notes of the previous references. Inspection should be made within the next 5 working days and any further action required will be taken. Your reference number is 16657.

Hmmm, 35 weeks now and no changes. For perspective, 1 person can fit between that tree and the hedge. If person has a small child with, one or the other has to go first. Nevermind meeting someone coming the other way. Why can't Lambeth just enforce the law? Is that asking too much?

Result! Environmental Services has contacted the landlord and will be serving notice that s/he must cut the hedge back quickly, or Environmental Services will do it at the owner's expense. Closing the issue but will re-open as a separate issue if the hedge is not maintained properly going forward.
