Road Surface Coming Away

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 09:54, Mon 21 June 2010
Sent to Cambridgeshire County Council 1 minute later

The whole surface of this road is in pretty shabby condition, especially at the Longstanton end where the newly resurfaced road runs into the old road and then suddenly becomes awful.

Very dangerous for cyclists as the number of holes/problems often mean you need to drift into the middle of the road, which can cause problems with oncoming cars.

This is still in a terrible state, and has cost me a few more punctures along the way.

This whole road is getting worse and worse. It is totally unlit and so in winter and at night cyclist cannot see the huge holes in the road until they've ridden into them either falling off or damaging wheels (I'm on my 3rd in 2 years)

Agree with all the above. This road is in appalling condition, and is a danger to cyclists.

As I understand it, the road excludes motor vehicles (except farming vehicles for access) and so it isn't routinely maintained; that's why the recent resurfacing work stopped at the Longstanton boundary.

Of course: a) cars still use it all the time b) this kind of policy explicitly states that a road need only be maintained for cars and not cycles, even though the ruts, holes and cracks affect cyclist *way* more than cars

Well recently the police where ticketing people for using the road who shouldn't be, but indeed as anyone who uses it regularly (legally, on a bicycle, I might add) can testify too, it is certainly one of the heaviest used roads in the area.

The entire road through to the Oakington cross roads is in dire need of repair, not least the 'Access Only' road. Hell lets face it, the entire road from the resurfaced bit in Longstanton through to the centre of Cambridge is pretty bad, apart from the new bit they did recently.

I can only envisage with dread just how dangerous the road is going to be in Winter, in the dark and icy conditions.
