Communal Rubish bins

For over two years now the communal rubbish bins in Gaskell Street & outside Wood House have continuously been left out in the street & car park instead of being replaced in the enclosed skip-houses where they will be out of sight & harder to access by the local fox & rat population. Rubbish is always strewn in the street & communal gardens which is unpleasant to walk through, looks unsightly, encourages vermin & is a definite risk to the residents'health & safety. I have, in the past complained to the Envronment Dept & was told that road works were restricting access to the skip-housings - we have not had any roadworks in the area for over a year now but the bins are still not put away by the refuse collectors after being emptied.

I also have reported the same problem many times, particularly for the bins on Smedley Street. Can I suggest you call Environmental department and speak to Keith Naish who is the operations manager and very helpful.
I have made a request for the StreetCare Warden for the area to make an inspection of the site within the next 7 working days. They will then take any further action required. Your reference number is 532125.
Thank you for reporting this matter to us. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail or on 020 7926 9000.
I live on Smedley Street and cab confirm that in the 2 years I have lived here the rubbish men have never ever put the bins back properly in the bin stores where they belong. Every Wednesday evening after their collection during the day I have to pick them off the floor or from the pavement and shut the lids and put them back in the bin store in an orderly fashion. I know binmen are not the sharpest tools in the box but surely it's not to hard them for to put the bins back as they find them?
Sort it out Lambeth Council!
Hi, since I posted this I've been in touch many times with Keith Naish and his team, and there has been some progress, but it's still not resovled. The good news is that the bin doors have now been fixed, and a new lock has been put on, this has half solved the issue, and I have not seen the bins out on the street as before (presumably you are putting them away). As you rightly point out the dumping is still an issue, and on Sunday night there was a lot of rubbish, on Monday morning this was clearly across the road, and by Monday 5.30pm this was all cleared up. However by 7.30pm someone had dumped a couple of sainsburys bags outside the bin chambers again, and by this morning these had grown into more rubbish. A problem is that someone, is still dumping rubbish. I've inspected this a few times and it's someone with a young child as there are nappies in these bins, which is (as I know from my own experience) a magnet for foxes.
So the most helpful thing to do is work together to try and identify this person who is dumping, ideally with photo evidence so we can challenge them.
In the meantime, we have still an unresolved issue, but on the positive side, the council appear to be trying (hence that they actually swept up yesterday).
Keep posting your comments !
Matt
Re my post on 11.06.10. Our bins are the giant communal ones which are too heavy for me to put in the bin stores. I did notice that the area outside the stores, (in the car park) where the bins have been left for the past two years, was washed down last week after the collection & the doors to the store left open but, unfortunately someone has dumped rubbish in the empty store which was not collected by the bin men and until this is cleared the bins cannot be put away. I have been very busy & unable to contact Keith Nash about this but should have some time during working hours in the near future and will get onto him about getting the problem sorted. At least I now don't feel I am the only one trying to deal with this - Thanks!
Hi, a further update on my earlier posting: I have left a message on Keith Naish's voice mail to call me & have also contacted Lambeth Living about clearing the debris in our bin store & making its door easier to open (for some reason some people find it hard to go up the steps and throw rubbish over the top into the bins & in the past have left it outside the door instead??!). I've also remembered that we used to have three big metal wheelie bins but one of them has disappeared which is probably one of the reasons why the rubbish is always overflowing into the car park. This is all going to be passed on to our estate manager who, hopefully, will be able to sort out these problems then, if the Environment Dept can persuade the bin men to put the bins back in the store after emptying them & the residents are more civilised about where they leave their rubbish, I'll be a happy bunny & can get on with the nicer things in life!
Since my last posting I have had a meeting with Ron Allan from the Street Care Dept who was very helpful. He noted all the problems & agreed with the possible solutions - adding that a notice on the bin-store door on the lines of 'Bin Store - please place your rubbish in the bins' might not only persuade the bin men to replace the bins but inform the residents of the appropriate place to put their rubbish. All these proposals will, of course, take time to implement but he seems on the ball & hopefully before too long the problem will be fixed. Watch this space...!
I have asked the people responsible for recycling around our area for over a year now that we need recycles bin outside of cassell house in front of stockwell rd and we have few bins there but not recycling ones. the ones we have is behind the estate and not many people on the ground like me can go around to use it. with big bags of things we need a closer one to encourage people who live near by.
Sunday 1 August dumped rubbish on pavement next to Green Wheelie Bins
We still have only two bins which, yesterday, were overflowing into the car park. The very battered one was replaced by a lidded one which people seem incapable of shutting. They remain in the car park and the bin housing door still hasn't been made easier to open, so nothing has changed. I noticed that the ones in Gaskell Street are also overflowing and remain on the street outside their locked bin housings....
