Dog fouling outside school!

Reported in the Dog fouling category by Mrs Birks at 15:01, Mon 3 December 2007
Sent to Cherwell District Council 3 minutes later

Numerous dog owners are allowing their dogs to foul the footpath outside and on the way to school, even right outside the school gate, and they do not clear up afterwards. Every day children are stepping in this mess and then walking it into their school and homes. This is not acceptable and these people need to be responsible for clearing up their dogs mess. What can we do about it?

This is already prohibited by law and owners can be fined if caught. I suggest: a) challenging the owners when you see them not clear up afterwards (remembering it may be a genuine mistake of course so allow 'some' slack) and then if no satisfactory solution then each and every time b) Reporting it direct to the Police (non emergency number published by Thames Valley) with descriptions of owner.

Ignoring this people behaviour does noone any thanks; the majority of considerate dog owners included.

I have also complained about this as it seems to be an ongoing problem in this area. The council told me that they would send an inspector around - there is still dog fouling around the school almost daily but hopefully if a few people get caught out word will get around that this is unacceptable!

Interesting that people still occasionally report this as an issue near this particular school. I live close to a Bicester school and although this does occassionally happen on the grass near a footpath it's an exception not the norm as there are plenty of other spaces close by that dog owners use and where, far more often than not, they pick up any mess afterwards.

I do often find it peculiar that this aspect of littering is complained at and yet not the constant daily scattering of food wrappings (bars, crisps, sweets etc.) that is a real scourge for anyone living within 500 metres of a school. I'd equally like to see the parents of such people caught out in the same way you suggest rather than picking on one section of litterers.

If you walk between my house and the school gates today there are 10 incidents of dog fouling, and 2 bags containing the same abandoned by the side of the footpath. I agree that there is a lot of rubbish scattered near the school, but I know what I would rather my children walk in! Again I have reported this to the council.
