Traffic refusing to stop at zebra crossing

I was nearly hit by vehicles that refused to stop on two seperate occasions today at the staggered zebra crossing on Cranford Lane. The first was a van that narrowly missed me as I was a third of the way across, the second, a car actually swerved and accelerated across the crossing in front of me, passing within centimetres.

Several of my colleagues have reported similar events and on many other occasions vehicles have stopped very sharply when approaching the crossings.

Drivers are frequently and excessively breaking the speed limit here it is extremely dangerous especially when the road is often covered with grit and dust from the nearby materials plant.

Would the council please consider one or more of the following options;

1. Removal of the planters on the railings on the approach to the zebra crossing and entirely from the central island. These are obscuring drivers and pedestrians views.

2. Upgrade the zebra crossing to a pelican with red lights and an enforcement camera to prevent drivers running through red lights.

3. Increased CCTV and/or police monitoring to catch and prosecute drivers that fail to stop.

5. Physical traffic calming measures on the approach to the crossing ie speed bumps.

4. Verification that all bulbs in the Zebra crossing are in full working order.

5. Installation of a pedestrian bridge similar to the one adjacent to Hatton Cross Tube Station.

Please do not install GATSO speed cameras or the illuminated LED speed limit signs as these are distracting to drivers and would probably increase the likelyhood of an accident.

Your fast and effective response to this extremely dangerous situation will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely.
