Blocked storm drain

Reported by Christopher Terry at 11:24, Tue 30 March 2010
Sent to Richmond upon Thames Borough Council 1 minute later

The storm drain outside nos 30 & 32 has been blocked for two years and despite repeated promises from LBRUT absolutely nothing has been done to remedy this. It is unsanitary: choked with muck and debris, it smells in the summer and wont allow rainwater to drain away.

A council drain clearer van arrived unannounced within hours of FixMyStreet first publicising our problem. So far so good - except that this is a "free parking" street (no objections to that btw) and the drain was obscured by a car whose ownership could not be established. I said to the council operative that if we were sent notice of when they intended to come, I could ensure the relevant area of kerbside was coned off for them. Since then we have heard absolutely nothing.

Thanks to FixMyStreet again, council contractors contacted us with cones and notices enabling us to cone off the relevant area of kerbside to make space for their drain blaster. The day we put out the cones and informed them the kerb was clear, they came and did the work and, so far so good, it looks as though it's fixed. Thank you to FmS.
