Damage by heavy vehicles

Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category by Steve Gerrish at 22:27, Mon 29 March 2010
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later

At the right angled bend in Queen's Lane numerous (possibly ancient) kerb stones have been cracked and/or are rocking because of vehicles accessing a construction site within Queen's College. The contractor is Beard Construction. I hope they are already contracted to make good any damage. It has got steadily worse in the 6 months I have been regularly walking this route. There have been a lot of vans parked in Queen's Lane lately, suggesting that whatever they are building is now at the fitting out stage, so the job may be finished fairly soon.

Fixing this problem will be a major job, so I don't expect it can be fixed quickly. I've had nothing but an automated acknowledgement from Oxfordshire County Council, and I have to trust that they are in contact with the contractor and Queen's College about the damage and how they should pay for it. It would be helpful to have some confirmation of that, which I could then post on this site.

Still not fixed, and no acknowledgment of problem. There may be plans to fix it, but no-one has told us.

Still don't know if repair work is planned or if the Council is negotiating with Beard Construction to pay for the repairs.

Still not fixed. Beard Construction have now finished their work, and the site entrance is being restored to the doorway in a masonry wall that it was before it started. Some feedback from the Council would be helpful here!

No sign of any repair work. The contractors, Beard Construction, have gone now and the narrow entrance they were using for access to the site has had its stone wall and door restored.

The damage has now been repaired. I suspect it was done during December before the snow. Here's hoping the tax payer didn't have to pay!
