Badly parked cars - Burnbrae Gardens

Reported in the Car parking category anonymously at 11:39, Thu 18 March 2010
Sent to West Dunbartonshire Council less than a minute later

A small group of people residing in Burnbrae Gardens have chosen to park on a narrow road, despite plenty of designated parking spaces.

This has created issues for residents who live further up the cul-de-sac, who regularly have to reverse to allow on-coming traffic to gain entry, and it has been particularly dangerous recently with the ice and snow where moving cars have almost collided with these parked vehicles.

A petition was signed by all other residents to have double yellow lines marked on this dangerous area, and it was agreed with the local police station they would fully support this due to the potential danger. West Dunbartonshire council acted quickly by putting lines down, but all they have done is painted one single white line down for about 4 ft of the road. Naturally the owners of the parked cars have merely moved up very slightly, so the problem remains.

As all residents (aside from the offending residents) have signed this petition and fully support it, everyone expects further action to be taken in the interests of safety.

Got email from Bill Johnstone nine days after complaint was raised, saying it was impractical to offer any other solution. He also claimed he passed the matter to the police, but I haven't heard from them, and claims a letter was sent out to all residents several months ago, although the five residents I asked also said they hadn't received any such letter.

A further reply was sent to Mr Johnstone asking for the letter to be re-sent and this was subsequently never sent either.

We will have to wait for a serious or fatal accident before West Dunbartonshire Council puts down their collective cup of tea and actually takes the complaints of the residents seriously (not dissimilar to that of the pedestrian traffic light situation on Dumbarton Road, Duntocher).
