large dangerous pothole

There is a very large pothole at the end of Cleveland Avenue and the junction with Hollybush lane. It's now big enough to damage a car tyre or wheel.

I see that a temporary repair has been made with soft tarmac again.

It's a shame the road cannot be repaired properly with concrete like the road was originally made with.

Why were these holes made in the first place?
